PUKI Grade Guide

Graded items on PUKI are graded A, B or C for cosmetic condition, or listed separately as Damaged / For Repair. All graded items — A, B and C — are fully tested and working; the grade only describes condition, never whether the item works.

What each grade means depends on what the item is, so the exact criteria vary by category — a laptop battery is not judged by the same numbers as a phone, and a camera is not judged on battery health at all. The grade shown on any listing links to the criteria that actually apply to it. Some categories, such as accessories and PC components, are not graded: those are described by their condition and the seller’s notes instead.

Grade A85%+
Grade A

Minimal to no visible wear — any marks are only visible under direct light. Fully working. Every feature has been tested.

Grade B80%+
Grade B

Light visible wear — light marks on the body, nothing that affects use. Fully working. Every feature has been tested.

Grade C75%+
Grade C

Noticeable wear — visible scratches or scuffs, and it may have dents. Fully working. Every feature has been tested.

Damaged / For Repair

Items with cracked screens, broken ports, non-functional components, or other severe physical damage.

Functionality: Sold as-is. No functionality guarantee.

This is a separate category, not a grade below C — it is never assigned a letter grade.

How PUKI grades devices

  1. The seller measures the battery and enters the reading. On a phone or a tablet they do not choose the grade — PUKI works it out from that reading, against the thresholds on this page, and the seller cannot change it.
  2. The seller sets the condition — New, Used, Refurbished or Damaged / For Repair — and describes any marks. That part is their account of the device, not a measurement.
  3. Both go on the listing as entered — the measured grade and the seller’s own account of the condition, side by side, so you can see which is which.
  4. If what arrives does not match the grade, report it within your three-day window. See PUKI Buyer Protection for how that works.

Grade is not the same as condition

The condition says what kind of item it is — New, Refurbished, Used, or For parts. The grade says what the battery measured. A refurbished phone still gets a grade. A new one does not, because there is no wear to measure, and nor does one sold for parts.

Where you see it

On a card, the grade sits on the photo and the condition sits above the name. The exact battery percentage is on the listing page, under Item specifics, along with the seller’s own notes on the marks.

A grade is a measurement, not an opinion

Two sellers can disagree about whether a device is “good condition”. They cannot disagree about a battery reading. That is why the grade is worked out from a number and not chosen from a list: it means the same thing on every listing, from every seller, and a seller who would rather it said something else has no way to make it.

Only phones and tablets carry a battery-derived grade. Laptops, cameras, consoles and wearables have no battery figure PUKI can stand behind — a camera battery is removable and routinely replaced — so for those the listing describes the condition in words instead.
